DECEMBER 2005 TASL MEETING MINUTES

The regularly scheduled TASL meeting was held on December 14, 2005. The attendees included Robert Beck, Karen Stevens, Teresa Phillips, Matt Hinson, Dave Dearborn, Dorothy Morgan, Nan Beck, and visitor, Don Leverone from Churchland Soccer Club . President Robert Beck called the meeting to order at 7:15pm. Last month's meeting minutes were unavailable for review as was the treasurer's report.

The main topic on the meeting agenda was the review and discussion of the TASL Bylaws. Karen Stevens had emailed a copy of the TASL Bylaws for all to review and bring to the meeting. Each section was reviewed paragraph by paragraph. Discussion was held on various parts and was approved for changes where necessary. All changes will reflect the revisions to the Bylaws and they were also approved to be posted on the TASL website.

Various other related topics were brought to the attention of the attending members with assignments made to each for research and to return next meeting for reporting information gathered.
  • League affiliation with VYSA - Dave Dearborn will gather information.
  • Insurance for TASL board members - Dave Dearborn will contact VYSA
  • League affiliation with US Soccer - Teresa Phillips will gather information.
  • Bollinger Insurance policy - Karen Stevens will gather information.
There was discussion on various parts of the polices and procedures in the TASL Handbook. A recommendation was made to post Spring Draft 2006 Handbook on the TASL website with the intention of having updates to it made by January 30th. This recommendation was approved.

The following dates were established for Spring Season 2006:
  • Jan.16th TASL meeting at 7:00pm at the Oracle Building
  • Jan. 20th Deadline for declaration forms
  • Feb. 1st Competition meeting (Each club will be responsible for submitting data to each club rep for division placement.)
  • Feb. 20th Draft of spring schedule posted
  • Mar. 10th First game of season
  • April 15th No game day
  • May 13th & 14th End of season tournament
Games days for Spring Season 2006 will be:
  • March 11th, 18th, 25th
  • April 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th
  • May 6th
Teresa Phillips announced that the NYSL tournament, "Coastal Kickfest" will be held on May 20th and 21st.

Each club rep gave a report on field usage for the spring season. Dave Dearborn said Norfolk would have more fields at Lake Taylor but they would only be available in the afternoon. He suggested that the schedule for those games be made by starting with the last one in the afternoon and scheduling backwards. Dorothy Morgan reported that the Churchland fields will be the same as in the fall. Teresa Phillips will update all about NYSL fields at next meeting. TCC in Chesapeake will become a new site for TASL. Matt Hinson will check to see how many fields will be available on Saturdays but it was noted that CSSC needs to declare smaller fields based on age of teams declared in fall.

Robert introduced the concept of "3 Up, 3 Down". He gave an explanation of this and asked all founding TASL members to come with a listing of 3 good things that occurred in TASL's inaugural season and 3 things that need to be improved. He asked that the members send it to everyone in an email for all to see. These listing will be brought back to the next meeting. Discussion on things that need to be improved will be covered at the next meeting.

The founding members of TASL have worked very hard and very well together that Robert suggested we get together for dinner to enjoy each other's company in a relaxed setting and bring along spouses. Everyone thought it was a great idea so January 10th was set for the dinner. Nan Beck will make reservations for everyone to meet at 7:00pm and have dinner together at Cora's in Norfolk.

It was suggested that as we plan for the spring season, we need to contact referee assignors in order to get a contract signed. Teresa Phillips volunteered to contact them.

Discussion began concerning older girls' teams playing older coed teams. There was concern over continuing to have these teams play in the same divisions. It was felt that U19 girls should definitely not play in same division as U16 coed teams.

The question arose on how TASL would get information for spring season 2006 out to clubs who are not members of TASL. The following suggestions were made:
  • Teresa Phillips would send out information to all coaches whose teams played in TASL in the fall season.
  • Teresa Phillips will put ads in the "tabs" in the surrounding areas.
  • Robert Beck will send information for posting on TASL website.
  • Nan Beck will post information at Premier Soccer in Chesapeake on the store bulletin board.
  • Everyone should send out to personal contacts.
Next month's meeting was scheduled for January 16th at 7:00pm at the Oracle Building.

Robert Beck adjourned the meeting at 9:40pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Nan Beck
